Industry experts IDC and Gartner agree that data centers have a relatively short lifespan, typically ranging from 7 to 9 years. This rapid obsolescence is primarily driven by the relentless pace of technological advancements. To effectively manage data centers in this dynamic environment, organizations must prioritize two key principles: modularity and simplicity. Modularity is essential for accommodating the constant need for upgrades and replacements. By designing data centers with modular components, organizations can easily add, remove, or replace equipment without disrupting the entire system. This flexibility ensures that data centers can adapt to emerging technologies and changing business requirements.
